A 10 panel drug test looks for several common drugs. It typically tests for five commonly misused prescription medications and five illicit or street drugs. The test may also include an opiate panel to detect abuse of legal painkillers such as hydrocodone, oxycodone, and morphine. It may also include an amphetamine panel to c heck for a variety of illegal drugs such as methamphetamines, cocaine, and phencyclidine (PCP).

Employers can use a urine, hair, or mouth swab to administer the test. The most common is a urine test. This is done by asking the individual to go into a bathroom and provide a sample of their urine. The sample is usually collected at a clinic or other facility. The sample is then sent away to be analyzed. The results are generally available within a few days. The person who took the test will receive a copy of their results from the company or lab that conducted it.

While a urine test is the most popular, it can be administered using a blood, sweat, or hair sample as well. The urine sample is the most common method used for employment screening because it is cost-effective, easy to collect, and provides a fast turnaround time for results. The earliest drug can be detected in the system is about three days after consumption. However, it can take weeks or months for some drugs to work their way out of the system depending on the amount and frequency of usage.

Some of the most commonly abused drugs include benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone, propoxyphene, and quaaludes. Amphetamines are commonly crushed and snorted for a quick and intense high. The opiates tested for in the 10-panel drug test are morphine, codeine, and hydrocodone. These are all derived from the poppy plant, also known as the opium plant.  To know what is on a 10 panel drug test you can check out here.

The opiate panel also includes the semi-synthetic opioids oxycodone, hydrocodone, and oxymorphone. These are commonly marketed as OxyContin, Percodan, and Vicodin among others. These are commonly prescribed for pain relief. The test can also be expanded to include an opiate panel that adds four more semi-synthetic opioids such as hydrocodone/acetaminophen, methadone/hydrocodone/acetaminophen, buprenorphine/hydrocodone/acetaminophen, and oxycodone/acetaminophen/butorphanol. These are also referred to as the extended opiate panel. This is a more comprehensive test for employers who are not required to follow Department of Transportation regulations. It's good to click on this site to learn more about the topic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_test.
